Penrith & District Red Squirrel Group (P&DRSG) is a registered charity committed to preserving red squirrels in their natural environment within the Penrith & District area and their protection from extinction in the wild.

We were founded in 1994 by local people concerned that they would lose their red squirrels if something was not done about grey squirrels encroaching on the area and becoming established; as they had in the rest of England.

The group became a registered charity in 2006 and has a growing network of supporters, members and volunteers plus dedicated Red Squirrel Rangers.

More about us

Help us continue to protect our native red squirrels

It is without doubt that the success of P&DRSG’s work for red squirrels to date has helped to protect these enchanting creatures, preventing them from becoming extinct. This could not have been achieved without effective grey squirrel management and the support of our members, volunteers and local communities

The Blighty Reds!

Helping our native red squirrels comes in all forms and we are always on the look out for new initiatives here at the P&DRSG.

Raising funds in order to sustain our crucial work is a huge task, one that is always ongoing. We were extremely pleased when we were approached by Richard, an entrepreneur from Cumbria who had a vision to raise awareness of the real threat our native red squirrels face whilst raising funds at the same time. In no time at all, Richard had his concept put in to production creating the website and so ‘The Blighty Reds’ was
born. With an iconic red squirrel showing the map of blighty in it’s tail facing it nemesis, the non native grey with north America in it’s tail, the message was clear.
You can learn more on ‘The Blighty Reds’ website www.theblightyreds.co.uk and look at the wonderful array of products they have on sale. A percentage of every sale goes in to red squirrel conservation so please do take a
look.
